About “The Anime Momma”
Hi friend, and welcome. 💛
I’m Tam—the voice behind The Anime Momma Blog.
I’m a wife, a mom, a veteran teacher, and a lifelong anime fan.
I’ve loved stories for as long as I can remember. As a child, I was the kid who always had a book nearby. As I got older, that love of storytelling expanded into anime, manga, creative writing, and online fandom spaces. Some of those experiences were wonderful. Some were difficult. Most were a mixture of both.
And honestly?
That’s part of why this blog exists.
Why I Started The Anime Momma Blog
When I became a mom, I started thinking about media differently.
Not because I stopped loving anime.
Not because I suddenly believed every show was harmful.
But because I began asking new questions.
Questions like:
- What stories are shaping our children?
- How do we know what’s age-appropriate?
- How can parents make informed decisions without watching hundreds of episodes themselves?
- What happens when anime extends beyond the screen and into online fandom spaces?
The more I looked, the more I realized there was a gap.
Most anime websites focus on entertainment.
Most parenting resources don’t understand anime culture.
And many families are left trying to figure things out on their own.
I wanted to create something different.
A place where parents, guardians, and anime fans could find honest information, thoughtful discussion, and practical guidance without fear, panic, or judgment.
My Background
Before becoming a mom, I spent years working as a teacher.
During that time, I had the privilege of working with students from many different backgrounds, personalities, and learning styles. One thing I learned very quickly is that every child is different.
What inspires one child may overwhelm another.
What feels harmless to one family may feel uncomfortable to another.
That’s one of the reasons you’ll rarely see me tell families exactly what they should or shouldn’t watch.
Instead, I try to provide information, context, and conversation starters so families can make decisions that fit their own values, convictions, and circumstances.
My Relationship with Anime
Anime has brought a lot of good into my life.
It introduced me to incredible stories.
It encouraged my creativity.
It helped me develop a love of writing.
It connected me with people I never would have met otherwise.
But I’ve also experienced some of the less healthy sides of fandom culture.
Like many people, I spent years deeply involved in online fandom spaces. Over time, I learned firsthand how easy it can be for passion to become obsession, how algorithms can quietly shape what we consume, and how online communities can influence our boundaries in ways we don’t always notice right away.
I also learned how easily curiosity can drift into places we never intended to go.
Those experiences shaped many of the articles you’ll find on this site, including the Loving Anime Without Losing Yourself and Internet Pitfalls series.
I write about these topics not because I think anime is the enemy, but because I believe awareness matters.
My Faith
Because many readers ask, I also want to share that my Christian faith is an important part of who I am.
I believe in the Lord our God, and I believe that Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, came into the world, died for our sins, and rose again so that we could be reconciled to Him.
My faith shapes the way I approach parenting, teaching, media, and many of the conversations you’ll find throughout this blog.
That doesn’t mean every article is a sermon, nor do I expect every reader to share my beliefs. Families from many different backgrounds visit Anime Momma, and I genuinely hope everyone feels welcome here.
However, I believe honesty matters.
Many of the topics I write about—including fandom culture, online habits, pornography, escapism, identity, and discernment—are deeply connected to both my personal experiences and the lens through which I understand the world.
My goal is never to shame people for their struggles.
If anything, my faith reminds me that every person is worthy of compassion, grace, truth, and hope.
Whether you share my beliefs or not, I hope this blog encourages thoughtful conversations, healthy boundaries, meaningful relationships, and a deeper understanding of the stories we invite into our lives.

What I Believe

But even good gifts need wisdom.
My goal isn’t to convince families to fear anime.
My goal is to help families understand it.
I believe kids need guidance more than shame.
Conversation more than condemnation.
Connection more than control.
I believe parents don’t need to become anime experts overnight to support their children well.
And I believe meaningful conversations often matter far more than perfect decisions.
