Wonder Egg Priority (Season 1)

📺 TL;DR

Wonder Egg Priority is a breathtaking psychological fantasy that explores grief, trauma, friendship, and healing through imaginative dream worlds and deeply personal stories. Although its colorful art style may remind viewers of an average magical girl anime, it tackles some of the heaviest emotional subjects I’ve encountered in anime. Beautifully animated and emotionally powerful, this is one of my personal favorites—but it’s also one I recommend with thoughtful discernment.

📖 Story Summary

Ai Ohto is a quiet teenage girl struggling with the loss of her best friend. One night she discovers mysterious eggs that transport her into dream worlds where she must protect girls facing terrifying monsters born from real-life pain and trauma.

As Ai continues fighting, she meets other girls carrying burdens of their own. Together, they search for healing, answers, and hope in a world where nothing is quite what it seems.

Without giving away major spoilers, Wonder Egg Priority tells a deeply emotional story about friendship, grief, and the unseen battles people fight every day.

⭐ The Anime Momma Star Levels

Category / Rating

⚔️ Action — ⭐⭐⭐☆☆

🌀 Mature Themes — ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

✨ Magic/Fantasy — ⭐⭐⭐⭐☆

💕 Romance — ⭐☆☆☆☆

🌈 Alternative Lifestyles — ⭐⭐☆☆☆

👶 Family Friendly — ⭐☆☆☆☆

⭐ Breaking Down the Ratings

⚔️ Action — ★★★☆☆

Each episode features fantasy battles against symbolic monsters that represent emotional trauma. The action is exciting but always serves the story rather than existing for spectacle.

🩸 Blood & Gore — ★★☆☆☆

Characters are often injured during battles, and blood appears occasionally (the most appears in the first few episodes). The violence isn’t especially graphic, but some creature designs and situations can be unsettling because of their emotional context.

🌀 Mature Themes — ★★★★★

This is where Wonder Egg Priority earns its highest rating.

Throughout the series you’ll encounter themes including:

  • Suicide
  • Self-harm
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Bullying
  • Emotional abuse
  • Physical abuse
  • Sexual harassment
  • Grooming and predatory adults
  • Grief
  • Survivor’s guilt
  • Family dysfunction
  • Identity and self-worth

These are not background topics—they are the heart of the story.

✨ Magic/Fantasy — ★★★★☆

Dream worlds, mysterious eggs, and symbolic creatures create a unique fantasy setting. Most of the supernatural imagery represents emotional wounds and personal struggles rather than traditional magic.

💕 Romance — ★☆☆☆☆

Romance plays a very small role. Relationships focus primarily on friendship, trust, healing, and supporting one another.

🌈 Alternative Lifestyles — ★★☆☆☆

The series briefly touches on topics involving gender identity and same-sex attraction. These moments are handled respectfully and compassionately without becoming the central focus.

👶 Family-Friendly — ★☆☆☆☆

Despite its colorful visuals and youthful cast, this is not a family-friendly anime. The emotional intensity alone makes it inappropriate for most younger viewers.

⚠️ Parent Awareness Note ⚠️

Please don’t judge this anime by its cover.

Wonder Egg Priority is frequently mistaken for a magical girl anime because of its bright colors and beautiful animation. In reality, it is a deeply emotional psychological drama centered around trauma and healing.

If you or someone in your household has recently struggled with depression, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, or significant grief, I would encourage approaching this series carefully. Even many adults find it emotionally intense.

💭 My Thoughts

Wonder Egg Priority is one of my favorite psychological anime and one I’ll gladly recommend to viewers who are emotionally prepared for it.

What captivated me most wasn’t the action—it was the compassion. Beneath its surreal fantasy lies a story about hurting people learning to carry one another’s burdens. Every main character is wrestling with invisible wounds, and the series continually reminds us that kindness, empathy, and simply choosing to stand beside someone can matter more than we realize.

Visually, this anime is absolutely stunning. The animation is gorgeous, the soundtrack beautifully complements each emotional moment (chef’s kiss 🤌🏻💋), and the dream worlds are both imaginative and haunting.

That said, this isn’t an anime I recommend lightly. Its emotional weight rarely lets up, and several episodes are heartbreaking. The hard moments never felt like they were there just for shock value. Instead, they helped tell a story about pain, healing, and learning to lean on others.

The ending wasn’t my favorite part of the series. I know a lot of people have mixed feelings about it, and I can understand why. I wish a few things had been explained more, but it didn’t take away how much I loved the journey getting there.

For me, Wonder Egg Priority is a beautiful reminder that the deepest battles people fight are often invisible—and that compassion has the power to change lives. That’s a message I think is worth hearing!

🌸 The Anime Momma Verdict

Wonder Egg Priority is a beautifully written psychological drama with unforgettable characters, breathtaking animation, and meaningful themes. While its emotional weight makes it a series I recommend with care, it’s also one of the most impactful anime I’ve watched.

💬 Conversation Starter

One of the greatest strengths of Wonder Egg Priority is its reminder that many people fight invisible battles every day.

If you watched this with an older teen—or even if you’re reflecting on it yourself—consider these questions:

  • What do you think each girl needed most from the people around her?
  • Have you ever realized someone was struggling only after the fact?
  • What’s one small way we can make the people around us feel seen, valued, and supported this week?

Sometimes changing someone’s life begins with simply noticing they’re hurting.
